A protest in Manipur demanding justice for conflict victims turned violent, prompting police to fire tear‑gas shells to disperse the crowd.
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Manipur on Thursday to press for accountability and justice for victims of the long‑running ethnic conflict in the state. The rally, organized by local civil‑society groups, aimed to highlight alleged human‑rights violations and demand a thorough investigation.
As the march progressed, clashes erupted between a segment of the protesters and law‑enforcement personnel. Police reported that a few agitators attempted to breach the cordon, leading officers to resort to tear‑gas shells to restore order and prevent further escalation.
The deployment of tear gas forced the crowd to disperse, with several participants sustaining minor injuries from the irritant. Authorities said the situation is now under control and that they are reviewing the incident to ensure compliance with public‑order protocols.
