Punjab police have filed 16 cases against farmers for burning para crops and are now visiting fields to raise awareness.
Punjab police have taken stringent action against the illegal burning of para crops in the Jalandhar district. A total of 16 cases have been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act.
The police force has begun a campaign to educate farmers about the legal and environmental repercussions of burning para. Officers are visiting fields across the district, distributing informational pamphlets and conducting briefings on alternative disposal methods.
The crackdown comes after several complaints from local agricultural bodies and the government’s agriculture department, which highlighted the detrimental impact of para burning on soil health and crop yield. Authorities have urged farmers to report any illicit burning activities to prevent further violations.
The police have also set up a dedicated helpline for farmers to report incidents and seek guidance on compliant disposal practices. Officials expect a significant decline in para burning incidents following the intensified enforcement and outreach efforts.
