Indian police dismantled a baby trafficking network that sourced infants in Gujarat and sold them in Mumbai, arresting key suspects.
Indian authorities arrested a group of suspects involved in a cross‑state baby trafficking ring that bought infants in Gujarat and sold them in Mumbai. The operation, carried out by the Gujarat Police’s anti‑trafficking squad and the Mumbai Police’s child protection unit, led to the seizure of documents and evidence linking the suspects to multiple illegal adoptions.
Investigators say the ring operated for over a year, exploiting vulnerable families and using forged documents to transfer babies to buyers in Mumbai. The arrests include a 45‑year‑old businessman and three accomplices.
The Gujarat Police chief said the bust was a result of a joint intelligence effort and that more cases are expected to surface as the investigation continues.
