Police Arrest 20 in Banswara Over Forced Hair Cutting and Assault of Woman

Police in the Arthuna area of Banswara district detained 20 suspects on Saturday for allegedly assaulting a woman, tearing her clothes and forcibly cutting her hair.
The incident took place in the Arthuna police‑station jurisdiction of Banswara district, Rajasthan, where a woman was reportedly assaulted, her clothing torn and her hair cut against her will.
Local police launched a large‑scale operation on Saturday, rounding up a total of 20 individuals suspected of involvement in the crime. Among those taken into custody was the victim’s nephew, who authorities say was part of the alleged gang.
Senior officials from the Banswara police said the arrests were the result of swift investigative work and that the accused will face charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The case is now being forwarded to the district court for further legal proceedings.
The police emphasized that violence against women, especially acts involving humiliation such as forced hair cutting, will be pursued rigorously to deter similar offenses in the region.
