Multiple deaths linked to contaminated liquor in Sagar have led to a notice being served to the officer who ordered a ban on the ‘Sagar Gold’ brand, sparking questions about enforcement rules.

Several fatalities have been reported in Sagar after consumption of liquor suspected to be contaminated with toxic substances. The deaths have intensified scrutiny over the quality control and monitoring mechanisms for locally produced alcoholic beverages.

Earlier this month, district authorities imposed a ban on a popular local brand called “Sagar Gold” following preliminary tests that indicated possible adulteration. The prohibition was intended to prevent further health hazards while a detailed investigation was underway.

In a surprising development, the same officer who authorized the ban has now received an official notice from higher administrative officials. The notice seeks clarification on the procedural steps taken during the ban and raises concerns about the adequacy of existing regulations governing alcohol safety.

State health officials have reiterated the need for stricter surveillance of liquor production and distribution networks. They have urged manufacturers to adhere to prescribed standards and have promised a comprehensive inquiry to identify lapses that may have contributed to the recent deaths.
