On Tuesday, the Ministry of Rural Development announced that 158 remote villages in Andhra Pradesh will receive new all-weather roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The scheme, which has been running since 2000, seeks to connect every village to the nearest town or district headquarters. The new roads are expected to cut travel time, facilitate the movement of goods and improve access to essential services. State officials said the project will be executed in phases, with local panchayats overseeing construction and maintenance.
