A notice issued by the PMAY residential society at Bhopal’s 12‑Number bus stop claims that Hindu families will be given preference for renting flats, prompting a complaint to the local police.

The Pakistan-Madhya Pradesh (PMAY) housing society located near the 12‑Number bus stop in Bhopal posted a notice stating that flats would be allotted on a preferential basis to Hindu families. The wording of the notice, which explicitly mentions religion as a criterion, has ignited public debate and drawn criticism from community groups.

Residents and activists quickly raised concerns that the directive violates India's constitutional guarantee of equality and the secular principles governing public housing schemes. Several locals approached the Bhopal police station to lodge a formal complaint, alleging discrimination and seeking an investigation.

Authorities have not yet commented on the matter, but legal experts suggest that the notice could attract scrutiny under the Right to Equality provisions of the Constitution and relevant housing regulations. The case is expected to be examined by the police and may be referred to higher judicial forums if warranted.
