PM-SETU scheme allocates Rs 241 crore to upgrade 48 ITIs in Karnataka

The central government’s PM-SETU programme will invest Rs 241 crore to modernise 48 industrial training institutes in Karnataka, aiming to improve skill development infrastructure.
The Prime Minister’s Skill Enhancement and Training for Youth (PM-SETU) scheme has earmarked a total of Rs 241 crore for the upgradation of forty‑eight Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Karnataka. The funding will be used to refurbish existing infrastructure, introduce advanced equipment, and enhance digital learning facilities, thereby aligning the institutes with current industry standards.
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, which oversees the PM-SETU programme, said the investment is part of a broader effort to boost the employability of the state’s youth and address skill gaps in key sectors such as manufacturing, automotive and electronics. State officials will coordinate with the central ministry to identify specific upgrade requirements for each institute.
Implementation is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with the first phase focusing on institutions that lack basic amenities and modern training tools. The scheme also includes provisions for faculty development and industry‑partner collaborations to ensure that the curriculum remains relevant.
Stakeholders anticipate that the enhanced ITIs will attract more apprentices and increase placement rates, contributing to Karnataka’s economic growth and the national goal of creating a skilled workforce.
