The Prime Minister’s Relief and Assistance for Health (PM‑RAHAT) scheme now ensures that victims of road accidents receive prompt and uninterrupted medical treatment across the country.
The central government has rolled out the PM‑RAHAT (Prime Minister’s Relief and Assistance for Health) scheme to address the medical needs of road‑accident victims. Under the programme, hospitals and emergency services are mandated to provide immediate treatment without delay.
The scheme creates a seamless pathway from the accident site to tertiary care facilities, covering costs of diagnostics, surgery and post‑operative care. Coordination between police, ambulance services and designated health centres is built into the framework to avoid gaps in service.
Officials say the initiative aims to reduce mortality and long‑term disability by ensuring that victims receive continuous care from the moment of injury until recovery. The programme is being implemented nationwide, with state health departments tasked with monitoring compliance.
