Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Delhi‑Amritsar‑Katra Expressway today, promising that the 350‑km stretch will cut travel time between Delhi and Katra to roughly 4.5 hours from the current 9 hours.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally opened the Delhi‑Amritsar‑Katra Expressway on Thursday, a 350‑km four‑lane corridor that connects the national capital with the holy city of Amritsar and the pilgrimage town of Katra in Jammu and Kashmir.

During the ceremony, Modi highlighted the project as a milestone for the ‘Amrit Bharat Abhiyan’ and emphasized its role in boosting tourism, trade and security along the northern corridor.

The new expressway is expected to reduce the travel time between Delhi and Katra from about nine hours to approximately four and a half hours, making the route more accessible for pilgrims heading to the Vaishno Devi shrine.

Officials also noted that the road will enhance connectivity to the upcoming Amritsar‑Katra rail link and support economic development in the region by facilitating smoother movement of goods and people.
