Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Auckland, New Zealand, marks the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister in six decades, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and boost economic cooperation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Auckland, New Zealand, next week, a trip being hailed as historic as it represents the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister in the last 60 years. New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon confirmed that PM Modi will arrive in Auckland on July 30 and depart on July 4.

The visit follows the recent signing of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and New Zealand in April. This agreement promises to accelerate economic growth by granting India's 100 percent of goods duty-free access to New Zealand, while duties on 7% of items imported from New Zealand will be abolished. The FTA is expected to open up New Zealand's market of 10 crore people, potentially increasing employment and economic growth in India.

Bilateral trade between India and New Zealand stood at $1.5 billion in 2019-20. Officials anticipate that this historic visit and the new trade pact will significantly elevate trade volumes to new heights.
