Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially flagged off the Regional Rapid Transit System linking Meerut with Delhi on August 19, 2026, a major step in expanding commuter rail connectivity in Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi, August 19 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the flag‑off ceremony of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in Meerut, marking the inauguration of a new high‑speed commuter rail corridor that will link the historic city with the national capital.
The RRTS line, part of the National Capital Region rail network, is designed to provide faster, reliable service across several stations between Meerut and Delhi, aiming to cut travel time for daily commuters.
During the event, officials highlighted the project's role in easing road congestion, promoting regional economic growth, and integrating Meerut more closely with the broader NCR infrastructure.
The ceremony was attended by senior railway officials, state representatives and local dignitaries, who reiterated the government's commitment to modernising urban transport.
The corridor is slated to become operational in the coming year, offering a modern alternative to existing road and rail options for residents of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
