Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial assistance for those affected by the deadly stampede in Kolkata, while senior leaders including President Murmu, Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed sorrow.

A crowd crush in Kolkata turned fatal, leaving several people dead and many more injured, according to local reports. The incident, which unfolded in a public gathering area, prompted an immediate response from emergency services.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation, said the central government will extend compensation to the families of those who lost their lives and to the injured, in line with existing disaster relief norms. He urged swift medical care for the wounded and called for thorough investigation of the causes.

President Droupadi Murmu, Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee each conveyed their grief, condemning the tragedy and assuring support for the affected families. All leaders emphasized the need for stricter crowd‑management measures at public events.

State authorities have launched an inquiry to determine lapses in safety protocols and to recommend corrective actions to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
