PM Crop Insurance Scheme to Start in Bihar from Rabi 2026-27, Says Minister Ramkripal Yadav

The Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme will be rolled out in Bihar for the Rabi 2026-27 season, with the state government urging farmers to submit applications as per the timeline announced by Agriculture Minister Ramkripal Yadav.
New Delhi – The central government’s Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme is set to be introduced in Bihar for the upcoming Rabi 2026-27 cropping season. The scheme, which provides subsidised insurance cover against crop loss due to natural calamities, will be operational across the state from the start of the Rabi cycle.
State Agriculture Minister Ramkripal Yadav informed that the application window will open shortly before the sowing period, allowing farmers to enrol in the programme well in advance. He urged all cultivators to register through the designated online portal or at local agricultural offices to ensure timely coverage.
The rollout aligns with the national effort to expand risk‑mitigation tools for small and marginal farmers, aiming to boost confidence and investment in agriculture. Details on eligibility, premium rates and claim procedures will be disseminated by the Bihar Department of Agriculture in the coming weeks.
Stakeholders expect that the scheme’s implementation will reduce the financial impact of crop failures and contribute to stabilising farm incomes in the state.
