Union Minister Piyush Goyal has come under fire for comments suggesting that a strong Indian work ethic requires working beyond standard hours and weekends.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal has sparked a wave of criticism following his recent remarks on the Indian work ethic. The controversy centers on his assertion that to achieve national goals, the workforce must be prepared to work beyond the traditional 5 PM cutoff and without regular weekend breaks.
Critics and social media users have panned the comments, arguing that such a stance ignores the importance of work-life balance and labor rights. Many have pointed out that productivity should not be linked to excessive hours, but rather to efficiency and proper working conditions.
The remarks have reignited the debate around modern working practices in India, with many professionals and labor advocates calling for a focus on structured hours and employee well-being rather than glorifying overwork.
