Director Peter Jackson revealed the production settings for the upcoming series ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ and ‘Shadow of the Past’ in a SYFY interview.
Peter Jackson, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the Lord of the Rings franchise, spoke to SYFY about the next two projects expanding the Middle‑earth universe. He outlined the narrative backdrop and production environments for both "The Hunt for Gollum" and "Shadow of the Past," confirming that each series will explore distinct periods and locales within Tolkien's world.
Jackson emphasized that "The Hunt for Gollum" will focus on the character’s journey after the events of the original trilogy, while "Shadow of the Past" will delve into earlier, lesser‑known episodes that shape the saga’s mythology. Both series are being developed with a blend of on‑location shooting and advanced visual effects to maintain the cinematic quality associated with the original films.
The director also noted that the productions are progressing according to schedule, with principal photography slated to begin later this year. Fans can expect the same level of detail and authenticity that defined the earlier movies, as the creative team works to bring new chapters of the legend to screens worldwide.
