The newly formed People Against SIR platform has announced a nationwide protest today, demanding the removal of 13 crore votes from the electoral rolls and calling for the impeachment of the Chief Electoral Officer.

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists has become a flashpoint in India, with critics alleging that the process has led to the removal of 13 crore votes.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, the newly formed People Against SIR platform announced plans for a countrywide protest, urging citizens to march in major cities across the nation.

The platform’s leaders demand that the 13 crore votes be reinstated and that the Chief Electoral Officer be impeached for allegedly mishandling the SIR process.

Organizers expect the protest to draw large crowds and to pressure the Election Commission to review the SIR methodology and address the alleged discrepancies.
