Floods have inundated twelve districts of Bihar, putting Patna at risk as the Ganga’s surge threatens the city’s protective embankment.

Heavy rains have caused flooding across twelve districts of Bihar, prompting widespread waterlogging and displacement in the affected areas. The rising waters have forced local authorities to issue alerts and mobilise relief teams throughout the state.

Patna, the state capital, faces heightened danger as the Ganga river pushes its banks closer to the city. In addition to the Ganga, several smaller rivers feeding into the capital are also swelling, creating a compounded threat to urban neighborhoods and critical infrastructure.

The protective embankment, commonly referred to as the "shield," that runs along the Ganga near Patna is currently under close observation. Officials have not yet confirmed whether the structure will hold against the continued surge, and inspections are ongoing to assess its integrity.

Residents in low‑lying parts of Patna have been advised to stay alert and follow instructions from disaster management teams. Emergency shelters are being prepared, and water‑borne rescue operations have been launched where needed.
