During the Quit India movement, seven students attempted to hoist the tricolor at Patna Secretariat on 11 August 1942 and were shot dead by British forces.
On 11 August 1942, as the Quit India movement surged across India, a group of seven students from Patna decided to raise the tricolor at the city’s Secretariat building. The act was intended as a bold statement of defiance against the British colonial regime.
When the students reached the Secretariat, they were met by armed British troops who opened fire. All seven were shot and killed on the spot, becoming martyrs for the freedom struggle.
Among the fallen was Jagatpati Kumar, a resident of Kharaanti village in Obra block of Aurangabad district. His participation highlighted the widespread involvement of people from rural areas in the movement.
Today, the house that once belonged to Jagatpati Kumar lies in ruins, a silent reminder of the sacrifices made during the struggle for independence.
