Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association has named Patidar as the skipper for the state's squad in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, leaving no place for Tiwari in the leadership role.
The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) announced that Patidar will lead the state’s squad in the forthcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The decision was made after a review of the players’ recent performances and leadership potential.
Patidar’s appointment follows a series of strong displays in domestic tournaments, earning him recognition as a reliable middle‑order batsman and a strategic thinker on the field. The MPCA board expressed confidence that his experience will galvanise the team.
The news came as a surprise to some, as Tiwari, who had been considered a potential candidate for the captaincy, was not selected. MPCA officials clarified that the choice was based solely on sporting merit and team dynamics.
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will begin in late September, with Madhya Pradesh set to compete in Group B. Patidar is expected to bring fresh energy and a disciplined approach to the side as they aim for a strong campaign.
