Election officials in Meghalaya have identified more than 500 names on the electoral roll that do not meet eligibility criteria, prompting a cleanup before the upcoming polls.

Election authorities in Meghalaya announced that a verification exercise has uncovered over 500 voter entries that fail to satisfy the legal requirements for registration. The discrepancies include cases where individuals are under the minimum voting age, lack permanent residence in the constituency, or appear as duplicate entries.

The Election Commission has ordered the removal of the ineligible names from the official roll and will notify the affected individuals to submit correct documentation. Officials emphasized that the exercise is part of routine checks aimed at ensuring the integrity of the upcoming state assembly elections.

Stakeholders, including political parties and civil‑society groups, have been urged to cooperate with the commission’s verification process to avoid any disruption on polling day. The commission will publish an updated list once the review is complete.
