On the opening day of Navratri, more than two thousand locations in Bhopal set up Durga statues, with several pandals receiving idols overnight.
Bhopal marked the start of Navratri with an unprecedented scale of devotional installations, as over 2,000 sites across the city placed Durga idols on the festival's first day. Local authorities and community groups coordinated the effort, ensuring that the statues were positioned in temples, community halls and temporary pandals throughout the capital of Madhya Pradesh.
While many installations proceeded throughout the daylight hours, a number of idols were transported to pandals after sunset, allowing organizers to meet tight timelines and accommodate late‑arriving devotees. The continuous activity extended well into the night, with volunteers lighting the newly set‑up shrines and preparing them for the upcoming days of worship.
The surge of installations attracted sizable crowds, as residents and pilgrims gathered to view the freshly adorned deities. The atmosphere was charged with chants, music and the scent of incense, reflecting the deep cultural importance of Navratri in the region. Officials noted that the extensive deployment of idols underscores both the enthusiasm of the faithful and the logistical capabilities of the city’s civic bodies.
