Punjab police recovered more than 20 kilograms of heroin in Firozpur, confirming it was smuggled from Pakistan via a drone and dropped in agricultural fields.
Punjab police announced the seizure of over 20 kilograms of heroin in the border town of Firozpur. The narcotics were recovered after a routine inspection of farmland where the contraband had been scattered.
Investigators traced the origin of the shipment to Pakistan, stating that the drug was air‑dropped using a low‑altitude drone. The unmanned aircraft is believed to have crossed the international border before releasing the payload over cultivated fields.
Local law‑enforcement agencies launched a swift operation to collect the scattered packages, securing the entire haul without any reported injuries or arrests at the scene. The seized heroin has been handed over to the narcotics control department for further processing.
The incident highlights the growing use of drone technology in cross‑border drug trafficking, prompting authorities to review surveillance measures along the Punjab‑Pakistan frontier.
