More than two million residents in Bihar are battling rising floodwaters that have breached riverbanks and inundated urban areas, including the fully submerged Diara region.

The flood situation in Bihar has escalated sharply, with river levels breaking previous records each day. Official estimates put the number of people directly affected at over 20 lakh, as homes, roads and farmlands are submerged.

The Ganga has overflowed its traditional banks, spilling into adjacent districts and even reaching parts of city peripheries. Urban neighborhoods report water ingress that has halted daily activities and strained municipal services.

In the Diara area, the impact is especially severe: the entire region is reported to be underwater, cutting off transport links and displacing thousands of families. Relief teams are deploying boats and emergency supplies, while state authorities coordinate evacuation to temporary shelters.

The Bihar government has appealed for additional resources from the central disaster management agency, emphasizing the need for swift rescue operations and longer‑term flood mitigation measures.
