At the Mahabodhi Temple, more than a thousand Buddhist monks were presented with cheewardan and daily necessities under the Bodhi tree, with devotees from several countries in attendance.

During the Mahakathin Cheewardan ceremony at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, organizers distributed cheewardan – a traditional almsgiving – along with essential daily items to over a thousand Buddhist monks gathered beneath the sacred Bodhi tree.

The distribution, described as a large‑scale act of generosity, aimed to support the monastic community’s material needs while reinforcing the spirit of compassion central to Buddhist practice.

The event attracted a diverse crowd of devotees, including visitors from several foreign nations, highlighting Bodh Gaya’s status as an international pilgrimage centre.

Officials overseeing the ceremony emphasized that such gatherings strengthen communal bonds and preserve the cultural heritage associated with the Mahabodhi site.
