The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Jabalpur and 12 other districts of Madhya Pradesh on September 25‑26, as the monsoon draws to a close.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) placed an orange‑level warning on September 25‑26 for Jabalpur and twelve neighbouring districts in Madhya Pradesh, signalling the likelihood of very heavy rain. The alert covers a broad swath of central Madhya Pradesh and is the highest warning before a red alert is considered.
State officials noted that the monsoon season is nearing its end, and the current rainfall deficit stands at about seven percent below the long‑term average for this period. Despite the shortfall, the forecast calls for intense downpours that could lead to localized flooding and water‑logging in low‑lying areas.
The IMD has advised residents to stay updated with local bulletins, avoid travel on vulnerable roads, and take precautionary measures to protect property and livestock. Emergency services in the affected districts have been placed on standby to respond to any incidents arising from the heavy rainfall.
