Former J&K leader Omar Abdullah warned that Delhi is set to replicate the extensive internet shutdown used in Kashmir ahead of a protest related to the Chief Justice of India.

Omar Abdullah, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, told India Today that the capital city is preparing to implement an internet shutdown similar to the one imposed in the valley. He said the move is being considered in anticipation of a large‑scale protest linked to the Chief Justice of India (CJP).
The Kashmir model involved a complete blackout of mobile data and broadband services for several weeks, affecting daily life, commerce and media reporting. Abdullah highlighted the economic and social disruptions caused by that measure, suggesting that replicating it in Delhi could have far‑reaching consequences.
He cautioned that such a step would undermine democratic freedoms and hamper the right to information at a time when public discourse is already heightened by the upcoming CJP stir. The statement comes as authorities in Delhi weigh security measures against civil liberty concerns.
No official response from the Delhi administration has been recorded yet, but political analysts note that any decision to impose a shutdown would likely face legal challenges and public criticism.
