Older Cars May Need Minor Modifications for E20 Ethanol Blend, Says Nitin Gadkari

The government has announced that vehicles manufactured before 2016 may need minor modifications to operate on E20 ethanol-blended petrol, according to Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. The statement comes after a series of studies conducted by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Automotive Research Association of India, which found that older vehicles did not show significant changes in performance or abnormal wear when using E20. Gadkari said that the changes required would be minimal, involving adjustments to fuel injection systems or engine tuning, and that the government will provide guidelines for owners. The move is part of India's broader push to increase ethanol blending in fuels to reduce carbon emissions and promote domestic agriculture.
