The Old RTR flyover, a key arterial link in Delhi, was closed for scheduled repair work on Monday, prompting a cascade of traffic snarls throughout the Delhi-NCR region. Engineers began resurfacing the structure and reinforcing its supporting pillars, a process expected to take several hours.
As lanes were reduced, vehicles were forced onto adjacent roads and alternate routes, overwhelming intersections that are already prone to congestion. Motorists reported queues extending for several kilometres on major thoroughfares such as the Ring Road and the Outer Ring Road, with travel times doubling in many cases.
Delhi traffic police issued advisories urging commuters to avoid the area, use public transport where possible, and plan for additional travel time.
