The Central University of Odisha will house a new Centre of Excellence dedicated to the study of Classical Pali, enhancing research and teaching of the ancient language.
The Central University of Odisha has been approved to set up a Centre of Excellence for Classical Pali. The initiative, announced by the university administration, aims to create a dedicated hub for scholarly research, curriculum development and training in the ancient language that underpins many Buddhist texts.
The centre will receive funding and academic support from the Ministry of Education, reflecting the central government's push to preserve and promote classical languages. It is expected to offer postgraduate programmes, specialised workshops and collaborative projects with national and international institutions.
Officials said the establishment of the centre will not only strengthen Odisha's reputation as a centre for Buddhist studies but also provide opportunities for students and researchers across India to engage with Pali literature and its cultural heritage.
