The Odisha Chief Minister has announced plans to develop the Puri coastline into a spiritual beach and to enhance the Mahodadhi Aarti ceremony, aiming to attract more pilgrims and tourists.
Odisha Chief Minister Srikant Kumar Majhi today unveiled a comprehensive plan to convert the Puri seashore into a ‘spiritual beach’ that would serve as a focal point for pilgrims and tourists alike.
The proposal includes the construction of new promenades, landscaped gardens, and dedicated prayer spaces along the coastline, with a focus on preserving the natural beauty of the area.
In addition, the government will upgrade the Mahodadhi Aarti, the nightly worship performed at the Jagannath Temple, by installing modern lighting, sound systems, and crowd‑control measures to accommodate the growing number of devotees.
Officials say the initiative will boost local tourism, create jobs, and reinforce Puri’s status as a major pilgrimage destination.
