The Odisha government has set a goal of achieving a 74% share of non‑fossil power in its energy mix by 2047, with plans to expand floating solar installations and battery storage capacity.
The state of Odisha announced a target to source 74% of its electricity from non‑fossil sources by the year 2047. The objective is part of a long‑term energy strategy aimed at reducing dependence on coal and aligning with India's broader renewable‑energy commitments.
To meet the target, officials said the government will accelerate the deployment of floating solar photovoltaic (PV) projects on reservoirs and other water bodies, a technology that maximises land use and reduces water evaporation. In parallel, the state plans to boost grid‑scale battery storage capacity to address intermittency and improve grid stability.
The move is expected to attract private investment and create jobs in the renewable‑energy sector, while also contributing to lower carbon emissions and improved air quality across the region.
