The Odisha government has issued a cyclone alert and assigned one minister to each of eight districts to coordinate relief efforts.
The Odisha government has declared a cyclone alert for the coastal belt, following the passage of a tropical storm that is expected to make landfall in the coming days. In a move to streamline emergency response, the state has assigned one minister to each of eight districts—Balasore, Ganjam, Khordha, Puri, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Kandhamal—to oversee preparedness and relief operations.
Each appointed minister will work closely with local administration, police, and the Indian Coast Guard to ensure timely evacuation, distribution of essential supplies, and restoration of critical infrastructure. The ministers are also tasked with coordinating with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Odisha Disaster Management Authority (ODMA) for rapid deployment of resources.
The alert comes as meteorological reports predict heavy rainfall, strong winds, and a potential storm surge along the Bay of Bengal. Residents in low‑lying areas have been advised to secure property and seek shelter in designated evacuation centers.
The government has activated its emergency operations center and is monitoring the situation closely, urging citizens to stay informed through official channels and avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable zones.
