State Minister Pradeep Kumar Harichandan inspected the ongoing rehabilitation measures in Odisha following Cyclone Arnab, emphasizing climate‑resilience initiatives.
Odisha's climate‑resilience drive received a high‑level review on Monday as State Minister Pradeep Kumar Harichandan toured the areas most affected by Cyclone Arnab. The minister met with district officials, local NGOs and community leaders to gauge the progress of shelter reconstruction, road repairs and livelihood restoration.
According to the briefing, more than 1.2 lakh families have been provided temporary housing, while the state government has cleared funds for rebuilding 3,500 damaged houses with cyclone‑resistant designs. Water supply and electricity connections are being prioritized to prevent secondary health crises.
Harichandan highlighted the need to integrate climate‑adaptation measures into all reconstruction projects. He announced the launch of a pilot program that will install solar‑powered community centers in vulnerable villages, aiming to reduce dependence on erratic power supplies during future storms.
The minister also urged the central government to expedite additional disaster‑relief grants and to support capacity‑building workshops for local officials on early warning systems. He pledged that Odisha will continue to strengthen its preparedness framework to mitigate the impact of any future cyclonic events.
The review concludes with a schedule for a second inspection in two weeks, focusing on the effectiveness of newly installed flood‑control embankments and the distribution of climate‑insurance schemes to affected farmers.
