Each course will cover both theoretical foundations and hands‑on workshops, with a focus on sustainable practices and market relevance. The curriculum also incorporates modules on entrepreneurship, enabling graduates to start their own small businesses or collaborate with existing cooperatives.
Officials said the initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize Odisha’s rich craft heritage and create employment opportunities in rural areas. By equipping artisans with modern skills, the state hopes to increase the competitiveness of local products in national and international markets.
The launch event was attended by senior government officials, craft guild leaders and students. A statement from the Minister of Culture highlighted the importance of preserving traditional knowledge while adapting to contemporary demands.
SIDAC plans to roll out the courses across its campuses over the next academic year, with additional support for scholarships and industry linkages to ensure successful placement of graduates.
