The Director General of Police in Odisha has issued a high‑alert directive to ensure safety on campuses ahead of the student union elections scheduled for October 15.

The Odisha police headquarters announced that the state’s Director General of Police has placed campus security on a high‑alert status in preparation for the upcoming student union elections on October 15. The directive instructs police units across the state to increase patrols, deploy additional personnel at university premises, and coordinate with campus authorities to monitor any potential disturbances.

Officials highlighted that student elections, while democratic, can sometimes trigger unrest or clashes among rival student groups. By raising the alert level, the police aim to deter any untoward incidents and ensure that the voting process proceeds peacefully.

The high‑alert order also calls for rapid response teams to be on standby, the use of CCTV surveillance in key areas, and the establishment of a dedicated helpline for students to report threats. The move reflects the administration’s proactive approach to maintaining law and order during a politically sensitive campus event.

No incidents have been reported so far, and the police have urged students and faculty to cooperate fully with security measures. The elections, which determine the leadership of student unions in colleges and universities across Odisha, are expected to draw significant participation.

The DGP’s directive will remain in effect until the election results are declared and normal campus activities resume.
