The state’s weather department has warned that Odisha will face continuous heavy rain for a week starting September 9.

The Odisha State Disaster Management Authority, citing data from the India Meteorological Department, announced that a prolonged spell of heavy rainfall is expected to begin on September 9 and last for seven days. Meteorologists attribute the system to a deep‑layered low pressure area moving eastward across the Bay of Bengal, which will bring sustained downpours across the coastal and interior districts.

Authorities have urged residents to stay alert, secure loose objects, and avoid non‑essential travel during the peak periods of the forecast. Local administrations are on standby to activate flood‑relief measures, including the pre‑positioning of sandbags and the readiness of rescue teams in vulnerable areas.

The department also highlighted the potential for water‑logging in low‑lying regions and advised farmers to protect standing crops where possible. Continuous updates will be issued through official channels as the situation evolves.
