The India Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall across Odisha until June 22, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds expected in several districts. An Orange Warning has been issued for seven districts, including Koraput, Rayagada, and Gajapati.
Odisha is set to experience significant rainfall and thunderstorms from Thursday until June 22, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather office has issued an Orange Warning for seven districts, anticipating thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph. These districts include Koraput, Rayagada, and Gajapati.
Across the state, all districts are under a weather alert for Friday. Heavy rainfall is predicted for Malkangiri, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore. Other districts may experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds. The IMD has also warned of heavy showers in southern Odisha, with rain activity expected to intensify over the next 48 hours.
Authorities have advised district administrations to prepare for potential localized waterlogging, uprooted trees, damage to fragile structures, and traffic disruptions. While the anticipated rain is expected to offer relief from the ongoing heatwave and humid conditions, experts suggest humidity levels might remain high.
