The Odisha government unveiled a dedicated technology hub dubbed ‘Silicon Valley’ and received semiconductor project proposals worth ₹23,600 crore.
The state of Odisha officially launched a new technology complex this week, branding it as the region’s first “Silicon Valley.” The announcement was made at a ceremony in the capital, where officials highlighted the park’s focus on advanced manufacturing and research.
Within hours of the launch, the government said it had received semiconductor project proposals totaling ₹23,600 crore. The proposals come from a mix of domestic firms and multinational corporations looking to set up design, fabrication and testing facilities in the state.
State officials expect the hub to generate thousands of high‑skill jobs and to position Odisha as a key node in India’s semiconductor supply chain. The projects are slated to begin detailed feasibility studies within the next quarter, with construction expected to start by early next year.
The initiative aligns with the central government’s “Make in India” drive and the broader goal of reducing the country’s reliance on imported chips. If the proposals materialise, Odisha could see a significant boost in export earnings and ancillary industries such as electronics design services.
