Nursing students' protest in Gwalior turns violent after a student's health worsens

After six days of protest over exam schedules, results and college recognition, a nursing student's deteriorating health and delayed ambulance sparked a clash at the Gwalior collectorate.
Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh – Nursing students have been staging a sit-in at the district collectorate for six consecutive days, demanding clarity on upcoming examinations, the release of results and official recognition of their colleges. The protest, which began peacefully, intensified on Saturday when a female student reported a sudden decline in her health.
According to eyewitnesses, the student was taken to a nearby hospital, but the arrival of an ambulance was delayed, prompting frustration among the demonstrators. The perceived negligence triggered a heated confrontation with security personnel stationed at the collectorate.
Local police intervened to disperse the crowd, but the situation escalated into a brief scuffle, resulting in minor injuries to a few students. Authorities have since promised to expedite medical assistance and to address the students' demands through a meeting with college officials.
