Crowds and members of European royalty assembled in Oslo to pay their respects as Norway held the state funeral of King Harald V.

Oslo witnessed a solemn gathering on Saturday as Norway laid King Harald V to rest. The state funeral, attended by thousands of citizens and a host of European royals, marked the end of the monarch's six-decade reign.

The ceremony, held at the historic Oslo Cathedral, featured military honors, a 21-gun salute and a procession that wound through the city’s main avenues. Dignitaries from the United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark and other neighboring monarchies stood alongside Norwegian officials.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre delivered a brief address, highlighting the king’s dedication to public service and his role in modernising the constitutional monarchy. The public was invited to view the coffin as part of a two-hour lying‑in‑state period before the final interment at the Royal Mausoleum.

The funeral concluded with a traditional hymn and a wreath‑laying ceremony, after which the royal family departed for a private reception. The nation now enters a period of mourning, with flags lowered to half‑mast across Norway.
