No Bids Received for Five Tender Extensions in Benaulim Hatchery Revival

The Goa government’s plan to revive the fish hatchery at Benaulim has hit a setback after five tender extensions failed to attract any bidders. The extensions were issued to attract private participation for upgrading the hatchery’s infrastructure and boosting local aquaculture output. However, the lack of response suggests limited commercial interest or concerns over project viability.

Officials from the state fisheries department said the absence of bids will force a re‑evaluation of the tender specifications and timelines. They indicated that a fresh tender may be floated after addressing the issues raised by potential contractors.

The delay could impact the state’s goal of increasing fish seed production, a key component of Goa’s fisheries strategy, and may affect livelihoods dependent on the hatchery’s operations.
