The National Medical Commission has directed all medical institutions to establish dedicated support units for students with disabilities, aiming to improve accessibility and academic inclusion. The directive will be implemented across all medical colleges nationwide.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) issued a directive today requiring every medical college in India to set up a dedicated support unit for students with disabilities. The units are expected to provide counseling, adaptive learning resources, assistive technology, and accommodation services to ensure inclusive education.

NMC officials said the move aligns with the commission’s mandate to promote equal opportunities and comply with disability rights legislation. The directive also calls for regular monitoring and reporting on the implementation progress.

All medical institutions must submit a detailed implementation plan within 60 days of the directive. The NMC will review the plans and conduct site visits to assess compliance and effectiveness of the support units.
