Nine people have died in Nagaland over the past three days after drinking spurious liquor, officials said.

Nine fatalities were recorded in Nagaland within a three‑day span after individuals consumed illegally manufactured liquor, the state health department confirmed on Tuesday. The deaths were reported from different districts, but all victims had a common link to the consumption of unregulated alcohol.

State police have launched an investigation to trace the source of the spurious liquor and have seized several bottles from local vendors. Health officials have issued an advisory urging the public to avoid unlicensed liquor and to seek immediate medical attention if any symptoms of poisoning appear.

The incident adds to a growing concern over illicit liquor trade in the northeastern region, where similar outbreaks have occurred in recent years. Authorities have pledged stricter enforcement of liquor laws and increased monitoring of supply chains to prevent further loss of life.
