The National Investigation Agency conducted coordinated raids at eight locations in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal as part of a fake‑currency investigation.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched a series of raids on Thursday, targeting eight premises spread across the states of Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The operations were carried out simultaneously as part of an ongoing probe into the manufacturing and distribution of counterfeit Indian rupees.
According to a statement released by the NIA, the seized locations included residential complexes, commercial units and suspected printing workshops. Investigators recovered printing equipment, raw materials and a substantial quantity of forged notes, though the exact figures were not disclosed.
Law enforcement officials have not named any individuals arrested during the raids, but they confirmed that several suspects are in custody for further questioning. The agency emphasized that the crackdown aims to dismantle a network believed to be supplying fake currency to criminal elements across the region.
The NIA has urged banks and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious currency. It also indicated that additional actions may follow as the investigation progresses.
The operation underscores the central government's intensified focus on curbing counterfeit currency, which has been linked to organized crime and financial fraud nationwide.
