The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijaya Singh, asking him to respond to a complaint alleging that children were made to participate in his recent march.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday served a formal notice to former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijaya Singh. The notice seeks his written response to a petition filed by an unnamed complainant, which alleges that children were compelled to join Singh’s recent political march.

According to the NHRC’s order, the complainant claims that minors were used in the procession without proper consent or safeguards, potentially violating child‑labour provisions under Indian law. The commission has asked Singh to submit his explanation within a stipulated time frame, after which it will decide on further action.

Digvijaya Singh, a senior leader of the Indian National Congress, has not yet commented publicly on the notice. The NHRC’s intervention underscores its mandate to investigate any alleged infringement of human rights, especially those involving vulnerable groups such as children.

The case adds to a series of recent scrutiny of political rallies across the country, where authorities are increasingly vigilant about the participation of minors. The outcome of the NHRC’s inquiry could set a precedent for how future events are organized and monitored.

The commission has indicated that if the response is unsatisfactory, it may refer the matter to the appropriate legal or administrative bodies for further action.
