The National Human Rights Commission has asked the Madhya Pradesh government to submit a detailed report on a complaint lodged by the NSUI concerning the naming of VIT Bhopal and the location of its campus in Sehore district, setting a deadline of 29 November.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has formally requested the Madhya Pradesh government to provide a comprehensive report on a complaint filed by the National Students' Union of India (NSUI). The complaint alleges that the naming of VIT Bhopal and the location of its campus in Sehore district raise concerns about transparency and fairness.

NSUI’s grievance centers on the decision to name the institution after the city of Bhopal while the campus itself is situated in Sehore, a district that is not part of the city’s jurisdiction. The student wing argues that this naming could mislead the public and create confusion about the university’s identity.

The NHRC has set a deadline of 29 November for the state government to submit the requested information. As of now, the government has not yet responded to the commission’s demand, leaving the matter unresolved.

If the NHRC finds the government’s response lacking, it may consider further action to ensure that the university’s naming and location practices comply with legal and ethical standards.
