NH-44 Between Jammu and Srinagar Closed Today After Landslides and Falling Rocks

The stretch of National Highway 44 linking Jammu and Srinagar was shut today after a series of landslides and falling rocks blocked the road, authorities warned.

National Highway 44, the main artery connecting Jammu and Srinagar, was closed today after a series of landslides and falling rocks jammed the roadway near the Pir Panjal range. Traffic police and the Jammu & Kashmir State Road Safety Cell reported that the debris had blocked both lanes, making travel unsafe.

Road maintenance crews were dispatched immediately, but the steep terrain and ongoing rainfall made clearing the obstruction difficult. Rescue teams from the State Disaster Management Authority were on standby to assist stranded vehicles.

Drivers were advised to use alternate routes via the NH-1B and NH-1C corridors, though these roads also face congestion. The closure is expected to last until the debris is cleared and the road is deemed safe.

Meteorological services have issued a warning for continued heavy rainfall in the Pir Panjal area, urging motorists to exercise caution and stay updated through official channels.
