The National Green Tribunal directed a detailed report on the delayed demarcation survey of Kherwa reservoir’s FTL and buffer zone, to be submitted within three weeks using drone, satellite and ground verification.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has instructed authorities to submit a comprehensive report on the pending demarcation survey of the Kherwa reservoir’s FTL and buffer zones within three weeks. The directive comes after the proposed survey, aimed at marking the reservoir’s boundaries, was postponed.
Initial field work had identified 33 instances of encroachment on the reservoir’s catchment and buffer areas. These violations prompted the tribunal to intervene and set a strict timeline for a fresh assessment.
The NGT’s order mandates the use of drone imagery, satellite photographs and on‑ground verification to produce an accurate map of the reservoir’s limits. The compiled data must be presented to the tribunal by the stipulated deadline.
The outcome of the survey is expected to guide corrective action against illegal structures and ensure proper water management in the region, safeguarding the reservoir’s ecological balance.
