Entomologists have recorded a new dragonfly species, the spoon‑tailed duskhawker, from Arunachal Pradesh, increasing the number of dragonflies known in India.

Researchers have documented a previously unknown dragonfly species in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. The insect, dubbed the spoon‑tailed duskhawker, adds to the growing inventory of Odonata recorded across the country.

The discovery was reported by The Hindu, highlighting the region’s rich yet under‑explored biodiversity. Adding a new species underscores the importance of continued field surveys in remote habitats, where many endemic insects remain undocumented.

With this addition, India's dragonfly list expands, offering fresh data for taxonomists and conservationists. The find may also prompt further ecological studies to understand the species' habitat preferences and its role within local ecosystems.
